In my last article, Great Expectations: What Buyers Want from Service Providers, we explored what buyers expect from our communication skills. Bottom line: being articulate is just part of the skill set. But in a world where everyone is eloquent, what kind of persona stands out?
Now that we've covered the basics, let's explore the differentiation. If being confident, clever, and brief is considered standard, then what does an "intriguing" style look like? There are three things that require a unique way to communicate and turn into a signature persona. When buyers see these dynamics, they are instantly attracted.
Unfortunately, these benchmarks are very intangible. Buyers can't describe these qualities, but they know them when they see them.
Comfortable Transparency
Buyers are mesmerized when they experience someone who is comfortable in their skin. The demeanor says, "I know what I know, and you know what you know, and as peers we can create great things together." This attitude opens the door to speak the truth in a respectful way because no one has anything to prove.
