Article The 15 Pitfalls Of Advising Clients (Part One) / (Part Two)
Author Andrew Sobel
My Thoughts

Interesting and useful article. My two-cents' worth: Never appear to be willing to compromise your integrity or the truth you have spoken to the client. If you tell a client not to do something or you can't accomodate him, never back off if you expect to have that personal or firm's respect. One "bending" tends to make the next bending more expected. Sounds tough...but I've learned first hand what works and what doesn't. I'm speaking as a bookkeeper, accountant and tax professional with nearly 30 years' experience in all three fields. What say you? Sincerely, Tom Blair

My Thoughts

The points that were listed were right on target. A couple of more would include: 1) Speaking before your client has finished his thought. 2) Presenting snap decisions/recommendations before you have the evidence to validate your position. 3) Trusting your client too much. All clients have an agenda, good advisors need to understand when you are too trusting or close to your client. Looking forward to getting your book.
