My Thoughts

This article is exactly the reason that I subscribe to Rain Today and recommend your newsletter to others. I recently sat through a session on marketing where the consultant told everyone that writing a book is easy and a quick way to become a thought leader. Yeah right! I have a bridge I can sell you too. This fantastic article lays out the pros and cons of publishing in a realistic fashion. Thanks for not pulling the wool over our eyes!

My Thoughts

"You will have spent a year doing it". Excuse me? Maybe for you, a pro, but most people are looking at two to three, minimum. Publishing is a 19th Century manufacturing process that still thinks a two-year product development timeline is blazing fast. Other than that, you lay out the problems with the industry quite well. But, you didn't make a case for publishing a book: Instead, you made a case for NOT using the publishing process. Frankly, if you're writing a book to promote your services, you're far better off to create an e-book and then use one of the print on demand services. It's easier, faster, more cost effective and you don't have to deal with a primitive industry. After all, this is marketing.
