Article Title: When To Say I'm Not Going To Do That
Author of Article: Alan Weiss

My Thoughts:
Alan is absolutely right and hits the nail on the head. Once we as consultants sell our soul, what do we have left to sell? He also rightfully points out that becoming a doormat is a choice one makes. We all need to remember to make these choices thoughtfully and consciously.

My Thoughts:
Credibility is the foundation of good leadership as well as of good consultants. There is no credibility if there is no integrity or lack of ethics. This is true not only of clients but those with whom we associate or recommend as part of our business. Word-of-mouth (good and bad) has a way of getting around.

My Thoughts
Mr. Weiss is right on target. Years ago, I ran a marketing communications business. I told my prospects up front that I would always tell them what I thought they needed to know, not just what they wanted to hear. I did just that and my comments were always accepted as part of the value I brought. I told my current company the same thing when I joined as marketing director 11 years ago. My comments, always delivered with concern and courtesy, have always been received with appreciation. We do ourselves, and those we serve, no good unless we have the guts to tell it as we truly know it to be. Only then can we begin to make it what it should be.
