12 Must-Have Elements For Your Scope Document

Editor's Note: This article is the first part in a two part series on creating and enforcing a project's scope. In this first part, Kless explains why a scope document is vital to any project and he outlines the basics to creating one. Read part two of this series on RainToday.com to see how to create a scope change request form.


Many of the small and medium firms I coach ask me to assist them with scope creep problems. In most cases, it turns out that these companies don't have scope creep at all, but, rather, they lack a scope document and don't enforce a proper change request process.

I hereby submit the following as the required elements (consultants call them inclusions) of a scope document for small and medium-sized businesses with a brief explanation of each.
