I went to a networking event recently where I met a lot of people who clearly knew how to network. Professionals were introducing themselves to me right and left, handing over their business cards, offering their services, and asking me what my company, "Marketing Mentor," was all about.
I didn't see one wallflower standing alone in the corner. No one seemed to have any qualms about talking to strangers or any queasiness when extricating themselves from our conversation to move on to another; it was all done with grace and skill.
On the surface, they were doing it beautifully. Even a shy networker would have been fine with this crowd. But appearances are often deceiving.
