67% of AEC Firms Predict Their Fees Will Increase During the Next Two Years

RainToday.com Releases New Fees and Pricing Benchmark Report: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry 2008

FRAMINGHAM, MA - May 12, 2008 – The newly released research study from RainToday.com and the Wellesley Hills Group, Fees and Pricing Benchmark Report: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry 2008, finds the majority (80%) of architecture, engineering, and construction firms have seen their fees-for-service increase at least some in the past two years. While more than one-quarter (27%) of architecture, engineering, and construction firms expect their fees to remain stable in the next one to two years, two-thirds (67%) of firms expect their fees to increase at least "somewhat." Only 3% of firms expect a decrease in the next one to two years.

The top factors that influenced their fee increases were:

1. Costs/Overhead

2. Competition/Market

3. Company Improvement/Experience/ Reputation

Fees and Pricing Benchmark Report: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Industry 2008 provides the actual hourly dollar rates by brand leaders, size of firm, and positioning. Other major findings include:

• How do large firms and small firms differ in their fees and pricing? Who gets higher fees and by how much?

• How often do firms discount their fees? How much of a discount is offered?

• What are the most important factors firms consider when pricing architecture, engineering, and construction services?

• What pricing strategies are most commonly used? Is the billable hour really dead?

• Are service guarantees being used? What do these guarantees cover?

• What factors influenced price increases and decreases over the past two years?

“People want to know about how they compare to others regarding fee structures, pricing approaches and strategies, discounting, and overall pricing challenges,” said John Doerr, Co-President of Wellesley Hills Group. “Knowing how competitors in the industry are pricing their services will help firms be more competitive and more confident in their pricing.”
