Last week I had the honor of seeing the guru of professional services firm management, David Maister, speak at Babson College on the topic of Strategy and Management - What Are they Really About. Before a filled room, he captivated the audience with stories, research, and analogies to convey his points about what it takes for a service firm to execute a strategy successfully.
In the presentation, based on his most recent book, Strategy and the Fat Smoker: Doing What’s Obvious but Not Easy, Maister brought to life the analogy that most service firm strategies are like an individual's diet and exercise programs.
