Make it Rain! A Column by Erica Stritch
I spent the past week in Utah with my husband at a lodge located between two well-known ski mountains, Snowbird and Alta. Before the trip, we read several reviews on TripAdvisor.com and various ski sites to see which mountain would win our preference and our business for our five days of skiing. All of our research suggested both mountains were pretty much the same—they even share a couple of the same peaks.
When we arrived at the lodge we asked our friendly, ski-bum innkeeper which mountain she preferred. "Alta. My husband and I both have season passes to Alta. It is family owned and the people are really friendly. 'The Bird' is nice too and the skiing's great like Alta, but is more of a resort, owned by a (insert facial expression here) corporation. You know, they own several mountains."
Like any recommendation, we filed it in the "good to know" place in our brains and figured we'd find out for ourselves. We skied Alta the first day, Snowbird the second. Sure enough we preferred Alta.
