It seems to be universally recognized, by now, that the events of recent months portend vast changes in our economy, in our law and regulation, in technology, and ultimately, in the professions. As a result, as many knowledgeable observers have noted, no company or professional firm, profitable or not, will ultimately emerge unchanged, and in the same form that it’s in now.

Considering the vast changes in our economy, in the financial world, and in a society wrought by economic disaster, it would be foolish to attempt to predict today the shape of the professions in even a year or two from now. There are too many unforeseeable events, too many potential government actions and too much political wrangling, too much rapidly changing technology, and too much domestic and international turbulence that will affect our world, to foretell consequences both intended and unintended.
